Beginner Level 1 | Six guided sessions
Learn a new method each week.
Build hand-building skills through projects that introduce a different clay method each week. Create functional and sculptural pottery while learning how to shape, join, decorate and finish your work.
Methods and projects.
The project sequence may change, but the workshop develops a broad range of foundational hand-building skills.
Pinch and form
Use your hands and simple tools to shape clay into small functional or decorative forms.
Coil and build
Build height and volume with coils, then blend, shape and refine the surface.
Roll and assemble slabs
Roll even slabs, cut components and join them carefully for mugs, plates, trays or structured forms.
Sculpt and carve
Add sculptural details, texture and carved elements while developing the character of each project.
Decorate and finish
Explore decorative approaches such as mishima and sgraffito, then finish your pieces for firing.
