Description:
Ready to take your wheel throwing to the next level? This 3-week advanced workshop focuses on learning how to throw larger forms on the pottery wheel.
Participants will explore techniques for centering and controlling larger amounts of clay, pulling taller walls, and maintaining structure in bigger pieces. We will also demonstrate throwing in two sections and joining them, a useful technique for creating forms larger than can comfortably be thrown in one piece.
Each session is 3 hours long, giving participants focused time to practice and refine these skills.
Maximum clay weight: up to 10 pounds per piece.
Prerequisite:
Participants must already have wheel experience and be able to confidently throw a 6-inch cylinder on the wheel.
What’s included:
• Clay for use during class
• 3 weeks of guided instruction (3 hours per week)
• Use of studio tools and wheels during the workshop
Please note:
This workshop focuses strictly on throwing techniques. Glazing and finishing are not included, and clay provided is for use during class time only.
If participants would like to try throwing in two sections and joining pieces, they are encouraged to bring their own heat guns to help stiffen the clay between stages.
This workshop is ideal for potters who want to challenge themselves and start working at a larger scale.
This workshop is suitable for ages 16+.
