Spend the first session hand building a pottery project with instructor guidance, then return for a second session to add colour and glaze. Pottery wheels are not used.
From project idea to glazed pottery.
Katie helps you choose an achievable idea, guides the hand-building process and supports you when you return to glaze your work.
Plan your project
Bring a few ideas that can reasonably be completed during the first three-hour session.
Build on day one
Use hand-building techniques to create your project with instructor guidance. Pottery wheels are not used.
Glaze on day two
Return two weeks later to add colour and glaze your piece in the second session.
We fire it for you
NewMakeIt completes the final firing. Your pottery will be ready approximately two weeks after glazing.

Your starting point
Beginner Level 1
No previous pottery experience is needed. Katie helps you choose a suitable project and provides guidance during building and glazing.
To keep the project safe and achievable, the instructor may ask you to simplify an idea, choose an alternative or decline a project that is not suitable for the available time.
New Horizons for Seniors Program
Affordable workshops for adults 55+
Registration for both sessions is $69.90 + HST for adults aged 55 and over through funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
Please bring valid photo identification to confirm eligibility for the Creative 55+ registration rate.
What is included
NewMakeIt clay, studio tools, decorative materials, glazes, instructor guidance and firings are included. Outside clay is not used in this workshop.
Workshop details
- Two three-hour sessions
- Maximum eight participants
- Hand-building only; pottery wheels are not used
- Pickup approximately two weeks after glazing
Come workshop ready
Wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that can get messy. Do not wear loose clothing. Long hair must be tied back. Shorter nails make working with clay easier.
