From clay to wheel thrown form.

Participants throw during the workshop. NewMakeIt completes the trimming, glazing and firing afterward.

Step 01

Start with prepared clay

Get comfortable with the material, learn basic studio safety and prepare to work at the wheel.

Step 02

Centre and throw

Learn to centre clay, open the form and pull the walls to create a simple wheel thrown piece.

Step 03

Select one piece

Choose one of your thrown pieces for our team to finish after the workshop.

Step 04

We finish it for you

NewMakeIt trims and glazes the selected piece in a clear or white finish, then fires it for pickup.

Your starting point

Beginner Experimental

No previous pottery experience is needed. Shelley demonstrates each step and helps you work safely and confidently at the wheel.

Experienced potters may also use the session to refresh their basics or explore a new form.

What is included

Prepared clay, studio tools and instructor guidance are included. NewMakeIt trims and glazes one selected piece before firing.

Come workshop ready

Wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing that can get messy. Long hair must be tied back. Shorter nails make centring and shaping clay easier.
