Class Duration: 3 Day intensive Pottery Hand Building Workshop
Date: October 16, 23, 30, 2022
Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Cost: $300+ HST
Instructors: Katie Argyle

Description:

Open to everyone including complete beginners

In this 3 day-long ceramic workshop we will tell stories using clay as our means of communication.

3 main elements will be constructed with several smaller connecting forms. Our pieces will be made by hand and threaded onto a 24” tall rod with a flat base. Students will build the elements with 3 handbuilding techniques: pinch pot, coil and slab. Attention to surfaces and proper construction will be emphasized. Expect to make 3 objects up to 8" tall plus 2 to 3 smaller spacer forms. All clay, glazing and tools will be provided.

If you have no clay experience you will learn all the basics of handbuilding. If you have a little, or a lot, of experience you can jump right in or use this week as a refresher.

Come with ideas in mind . I am asking you to tell a story in three main objects plus 2 or 3 smaller pieces that will sit in between. Ask yourself what you would make to represent your past, present and future? Where did you come from? Where are you now? Where would you like to go? What are your hopes and dreams? What do you love? Who are you? Show us in clay.

Most of our work will be electric fired, but two pieces can be barrel fired. Our barrel firing instructor, Kathy Verbeek, will visit us on day 1 to introduce barrel firing to the group and to show us her ceramic story. We may barrel fire on the last day (depending on the weather).
